The fest was held at the Madras Music Academy mini-hall, showcasing the talents from SIFAS.
This year, a collaboration with the Consulate-General of Singapore helped SIFAS to produce a unique show called ‘Laya Sangamam’ which showcased collaborative talents of Indian, Chinese, Malay and Western musicians.
The show presented the strength and depth of Indian Ragas through a rhythmic piece derived from South and North Indian traditions, featuring Bengali Folk Music and compositions of Chinese and Western origin.
Consulate General of Singapore, Roy Kho said, “My wife and I are proud to see Singapore’s multicultural diversity expressed this way. This was a great opportunity to bring the uniqueness of how our communities blend to Chennai.”
Secretary of the Madras Music Academy, Sumathi Krishnan said, “I loved the Chinese drums.”
Kalakshetra dancer and choreographer, V P Dhanajayan said, “The conceptualisation and conducting of this programme by SIFAS Mridangam Guru Tripunithura Sreekanth was exceptional. It was clear that much hard work and thought has been put to create and execute this programme. It was impressive to see this quality of work coming from SIFAS in Singapore.”
