Chennai: Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) has successfully installed and commissioned a 380 kwp solar power plant on the two/ four wheeler parking shed roofs of three Metro stations namely Anna Nagar East, Pachiappas College, Nehru Park and the ground area inside CMRL depot.
Speaking to News Today, a CMRL spokesperson, said, “This set up is expected to generate around 45,600 units of electricity per month thereby saving around Rs 11,92,896 per year. This solar power project has been executed under zero capital investment by CMRL and based on RESCO model under Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) Scheme on a monthly tariff based payment.”
“This method of generated solar power will be utilised for technical demands. Now, the installed capacity of roof-top solar power by CMRL is 3.76 MW in total. Another 4.2 MW roof-top solar power installation is under progress which is expected to be completed by February. CMRL is very much committed to achieve energy security and will continue to generate renewable energy by installing roof-top solar power systems,” he added.
It is to be noted that just around a month ago, CMRL commissioned 1,120 kwp solar power plant on the roofs of Alandur and St Thomas Mount Metro stations and on the ground at Metro Rail Depot, Koyambedu generating around 1,51,200 units of electricity per month saving around Rs 69,49,152 lakh per year.
