Chennai: In Tamilnadu, on a day when the mortal remains of CRPF jawans G Subramanian and C Sivachandran – who died in the Pulwama suicide attack – were flown to Tiruchi and Madurai, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said one member from their family will be given a government job.

It may be noted that Palaniswami yesterday announced Rs 20 lakh as solatium for the bereaved families.

Family members of the jawans and several political leaders including Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Pon Radhakrishnan, State Tourism Minister Vellamandi Natarajan and BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan paid their last tributes to the soldiers.

The duo from Tamilnadu were among the 42 CPRF personnel killed in the Pulwama terror attack Thursday. Sources said they had returned to their camps just five days ago after spending about a month’s leave at their respective home towns.

Subramanian of Savalaperi village in Thoothukudi had joined the CRPF in 2014 and was moved to Jammu and Kashmir after being posted in Chennai and Uttar Pradesh. He married Krishnaveni in 2017. After spending a month-long leave he had returned to his camp 10 February.

Sivachandran, who belongs to Karugudi village, near Ariyalur, had resumed duty 9 February. He had joined the CRPF in 2010 and is survived by his wife Kanthimathi and a 2-year-old son. His wife is currently pregnant. According to media reports, Sivachandran had called his wife around 12 noon on the day of the suicide blast.

He was said to be the sole earning member of the family. Sivachandran’s father Chinnayan said, “He went to save the nation, but could not protect his family.”
