With CCTV cameras playing an important role in preventing crimes, the K K Nagar police will add another 150 cameras to the existing 800 CCTVs soon.
Speaking to News Today, newly appointed R7 Police Inspector (L&O) V Srinivasan said, “We have set a target of 1,000 CCTV cameras and once it is achieved there would be a sense of fulfilment. We are waiting for City Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan’s appointment to inaugurate the third-eye in our locality.”
Asked about whether he has arranged for meetings with residents welfare associations at K K Nagar, he said, “Now with elections on, I will be busy. Once, the polls are completed, I will meet the residents and interact with them.”
Meanwhile, residents welfare associations have extended their greetings to the new Inspector through the WhatsApp group created by R7 police.
Recently, Viswanathan at a function held at Kumaran Anugraha Hall, inaugurated 120 CCTV cameras under T Nagar police jurisdiction, 1,207 at Ashok Nagar and 100 at Vadapalani. With this, 14,154 CCTV cameras have been fixed in T Nagar police district.
Speaking on the occasion, Viswanathan said, “The CCTV cameras have helped us solve crimes quicker. Instead of questioning multiple suspects and leads in connection with a crime, we can narrow down on the culprit with the help of cameras.”
“We are insisting on CCTV cameras for every 50 metres taking it to 2.5 lakh cameras across the city. They are very helpful to ascertain the truth in the event of a crime, accident or any mishaps. It helps in maintaining law and order, helps improve traffic discipline and also make policemen behave politely. The crime rates have come down drastically with the installation.”
