Chennai: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against key conspirator in the Hindu Munnani Coimbatore C Sasikumar murder case of 2016.

The NIA filed the charge sheet against the key conspirator, Mohd Rafiqul Hassan alias Hassan u/s 34, 120-B, 153A(1)(b), 302 of IPC and under sections 16 (1) (a), 18 and 20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 before the NIA Special court, Poonamallee, Chennai.

The case relates to murder of the then spokesperson of Hindu Munnani Coimbatore, Sasikumar on 22 September, 2016 when he was returning home on his scooter.

The case was originally registered at Thudiyalur Police Station in Coimbatore before the NIA took up the probe as the involvement of some fundamentalists came to light.

NIA had earlier filed two charge-sheets against four accused persons in this case. Further investigation had revealed the role of Mohammed Rafiqul Hassan, who was driving the motorcycle on which assailant, Subair was sitting pillion while attacking the victim.

All the five accused persons in the case, belonging to Popular Front of India (PFI) Coimbatore, had conspired and held meetings at a mosque to take revenge against Sasikumar who had led protests for removing a SDPI flag post in Sanganoor and subsequently hoisted a Hindu Munnani flag in its place.

After executing the killing, he had fled India in November 2016 to evade arrest. Based on credible information on 9 February this year, accused Mohammed Rafiqul Hassan was arrested at IGI Airport, New Delhi on his arrival from Oman. Further Investigation in the case continues.
