Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated a unidirectional ‘U’ shaped flyover near the Indira Nagar MRTS station on Thursday. Constructed at a cost of Rs. 18.15 crore, the 237-meter-long flyover marks a significant infrastructure addition aimed at easing traffic flow in the bustling area. This flyover will specifically benefit vehicles approaching from Sholinganallur (SRP Tools Junction), providing a convenient U-turn towards Adyar and Thiruvanmiyur through Indira Nagar. The inauguration comes as a relief for commuters who have long grappled with prolonged waiting times at key signals, notably the Indira Nagar signal and Tidel Park signal, causing substantial traffic snarls on Rajiv Road. The decision to construct ‘U’ shaped flyovers at both junctions reflects a strategic initiative to permanently resolve the traffic issue, mitigating the inconvenience faced by motorists. The Highways Department, in a statement, highlighted the necessity of these flyovers to enhance the overall traffic management in the region. Vehicles, often delayed by 20 to 30 minutes at the Indira Nagar and Tidel Park signals, are expected to experience smoother traffic flow with the introduction of the new flyover. Chief Minister MK Stalin underscored the government’s commitment to addressing the day-to-day challenges faced by citizens and improving the overall quality of urban life. The inauguration of the ‘U’ shaped flyover aligns with the administration’s focus on infrastructure development to accommodate the growing demands of a rapidly urbanizing city. As the flyover becomes operational, residents and commuters anticipate a notable reduction in travel time and a more efficient commute along the vital OMR stretch.
