In a move to bolster women’s empowerment and improve living conditions, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the ‘Thozhi’ hostel for working women at Tambaram Sanatorium on January 4. The inauguration, conducted virtually, marked another significant step by the State government in providing essential infrastructure for the well-being of women in the workforce. Constructed by the Tamil Nadu Working Womenās Hostels Corporation, the ‘Thozhi’ hostel boasts a capacity to accommodate over 460 residents. This modern facility has been built at a cost of ā¹18 crore, emphasizing the government’s commitment to creating safe and comfortable living spaces for women pursuing professional careers. The inauguration of ‘Thozhi’ adds to the State government’s commendable efforts in establishing similar hostels across Tamil Nadu. Prior to this, ‘Thozhi’ hostels were constructed in Guduvancheri (Chengalpattu district) and Tiruchi. Additionally, existing hostels for women in Adyar (Chennai), Perambalur, Salem, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, Vellore, and Villupuram have been renovated to meet the evolving needs of the residents. The initiative aligns with the larger goal of promoting women’s education, employment, and overall empowerment. Providing secure and supportive living arrangements for working women is crucial in facilitating their active participation in the workforce while ensuring their well-being.
