Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the General Secretary of AIADMK and Leader of the Opposition, has reiterated his party’s stance against forming an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Palaniswami remains resolute in his commitment to safeguarding the rights of the people of Tamil Nadu and protecting the interests of the state.Speaking in Madurai on Tuesday, AIADMK MLA R.B. Udayakumar (Thirumangalam) emphasized Palaniswami’s active involvement in forging alliances with other political parties to ensure the state’s representation in the Lok Sabha. Palaniswami’s steadfast stance reflects the party’s dedication to maintaining its independent identity and serving the best interests of Tamil Nadu.
Udayakumar also called upon Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to address the pressing issue of drug trafficking in the state and take decisive action to combat this growing menace. Expressing concern over Stalin’s silence on the matter, Udayakumar criticized DMK organizing secretary R.S. Bharathi for commenting on the issue despite lacking an official government position.
The recent arrest of DMK functionary Jaffar Sadiq in connection with a drug seizure case has raised eyebrows, particularly due to his alleged close ties to the family of CM Stalin. The emergence of photos showing Sadiq posing with the CM’s family has sparked further scrutiny into the matter, prompting calls for transparency and accountability.
Udayakumar highlighted the stark contrast between the AIADMK’s focus on providing education-related benefits to students during the tenure of former Chief Ministers J. Jayalalithaa and Palaniswami and the alarming proliferation of narcotics among students today. He emphasized the need for concerted efforts to address this concerning trend and ensure the well-being of Tamil Nadu’s youth.
Furthermore, Udayakumar criticized the Central government for neglecting Tamil Nadu’s development needs, citing the failure to allocate funds for the metro rail project in Madurai and the state government’s loss of GST revenue from the Centre. These grievances underscore the importance of equitable distribution of resources and fair treatment of states by the Central government.
