In a recent statement, BJP State President K Annamalai addressed allegations regarding electoral bonds, highlighting disparities between the funding received by national and regional parties. Speaking to reporters, Annamalai pointed out that despite the BJP’s status as the ruling party at the national level and in 19 states, its funding through electoral bonds falls below the average compared to certain regional counterparts such as the DMK and TMC.
Annamalai drew attention to the significant financial support received by regional parties, particularly the DMK, through electoral bonds. He noted that the DMK, primarily active in Tamil Nadu and with limited presence beyond certain regions, reportedly received a substantial amount of Rs 600 crores through electoral bonds. This stark contrast between the funding received by the BJP and certain regional parties raises questions about the sources and distribution of funds in the political landscape.
Furthermore, Annamalai questioned the involvement of individuals like Aadhav Arjuna, the son-in-law of lottery tycoon Santiago Martin, in supporting parties like VCK, DMK, and TMC. Arjuna, known for his association with VCK President Thol Thirumavalavan and his advisory role in Chief Minister MK Stalin’s social media endeavors, allegedly facilitated significant donations to these parties through electoral bonds. The substantial financial backing from figures like Santiago Martin and Aadhav Arjuna prompts scrutiny into the transparency and accountability of electoral funding processes.
Annamalai emphasized the need for clarity and accountability regarding the distribution and utilization of funds obtained through electoral bonds. He called upon Aadhav Arjuna to address concerns and provide explanations regarding the sources and allocations of these substantial donations to various political entities.
