Nainar Nagendran denies connection to seized cash

Tirunelveli’s political landscape has been embroiled in controversy as BJP candidate Nainar Nagendran refutes allegations linking him to a recent cash seizure in Chennai. Amidst accusations from the ruling DMK party in Tamil Nadu, Nagendran maintains his innocence and claims that he is being targeted to tarnish his image ahead of the elections.

In a statement to the media, Nagendran vehemently denied any association with the Rs four-crore cash haul in Chennai, asserting that neither the money nor the individuals involved have any ties to him. He alleges that the DMK is orchestrating these accusations out of fear of losing the upcoming polls in the Tirunelveli constituency.

“I have no connection whatsoever with the seized cash or the individuals apprehended in Chennai. These allegations are a smear campaign aimed at undermining my popularity among the people and my chances of winning in Tirunelveli,” Nagendran declared.

Despite the complaint filed against him by the DMK with the Election Commission of India, Nagendran remains resolute, stating that he has committed no wrongdoing and is untroubled by the accusations.

However, the controversy doesn’t end there. In a separate development, a raid conducted by the flying squad team unearthed cash, clothing items, and liquor bottles at the residence of one of Nagendran’s supporters in Tirunelveli. This further fuels speculation and adds to the mounting pressure on the BJP candidate.

Responding to the escalating situation, the DMK has called for thorough searches at all locations associated with Nagendran and other BJP candidates across Tamil Nadu. They allege that Nagendran may have amassed significant funds to influence voters, citing concerns of large-scale corruption and vote-buying.

Echoing the sentiments of their political ally, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has also urged the Election Commission of India to take decisive action against Nagendran in light of the allegations.

In response to the escalating tensions, Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo announced that the Income Tax Department will conduct a detailed investigation into the matter. The move is seen as a step towards ensuring electoral integrity and transparency in the face of mounting allegations.
