Stop investors from moving out of Tamilnadu: EPS

AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has called on the DMK government to take immediate measures to stop investments in Tamil Nadu’s textile industry from shifting to other states, particularly Madhya Pradesh. His comments come in response to recent developments that have raised concerns within the state’s industrial sector.
In a statement, Palaniswami highlighted that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited key textile hubs in Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore and Tiruppur, during the last week of July. During his visit, Yadav signed significant agreements with the Tiruppur Exporters Association, Southern India Mills Association, and Indian Cotton Federation. These agreements, Palaniswami warned, could lead to a migration of textile industry investments from Tamil Nadu to Madhya Pradesh.
As part of the agreements, Madhya Pradesh has committed to establishing a Cotton Development Board and expanding the production area for extra long staple cotton, a crucial raw material for the textile industry. Palaniswami expressed concern that these developments could further erode Tamil Nadu’s position as a leading textile hub.
The AIADMK leader also criticized the current DMK government for its handling of issues affecting the textile industry. He noted that industrial power tariffs have been hiked three times, which has placed additional financial pressure on textile units. Furthermore, he pointed out that the government has failed to take effective action to stabilize cotton prices, which remain volatile.
Palaniswami urged the DMK government to address these issues urgently to prevent further damage to Tamil Nadu’s textile sector and to ensure that the state remains a competitive and attractive destination for industrial investments.
