The leader of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Thol. Thirumavalavan, remarked on Vijay’s recent announcement at the TVK party conference, saying, “Vijay’s eagerness to claim a share in governance before AIADMK reveals a sense of urgency.”In his statement, Thirumavalavan noted that Vijay’s declaration on “a share in governance for allies” is a novel proposition in Tamil Nadu politics, aiming for influence and authority with an accelerated momentum. He compared it to the mythical “Vamana avatar” from ancient stories, highlighting the ambition behind this approach.
Thirumavalavan also questioned Vijay’s stance on communal harmony, as Vijay claimed his party wouldn’t engage in majority or minority divides. Thirumavalavan observed that while this might appear as an anti-BJP stance, there remain unanswered questions about Vijay’s commitment to protecting minority rights.
“Is his opposition to fascism simply an opposition to the BJP-Sangh Parivar? Or does he dismiss the need to counter fascism altogether?” Thirumavalavan asked, questioning Vijay’s political direction. He suggested that Vijay’s opposition to the DMK and focus on weakening the DMK alliance reflect a radical shift, rather than an effective ideological position.
Thirumavalavan went on to say that Vijay’s ideas of “family politics opposition” and “anti-corruption” are not new slogans and lack a fresh roadmap or revolutionary proposals. Comparing Vijay’s promise of a share in power to a “festive discount sale,” he suggested this strategy reflects a rush to outpace the AIADMK, speculating that it might be aimed at gaining early advantage over them.
In conclusion, Thirumavalavan likened the recent conference, which attracted a massive audience, to “another film shoot,” hinting at its performative aspect.
