The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has projected higher-than-normal rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh for November due to the active Northeast Monsoon. Speaking to reporters in Delhi, IMD Director-General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra shared insights into this year’s weather patterns.
In October, the country’s average temperature reached 26.92 degrees Celsius, marking the highest recorded since 1901. Previously, the October high had been 25.69 degrees Celsius, recorded in 1901, making this year a significant increase in maximum temperature.
With November rains anticipated to surpass normal levels, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and the southern interior districts of Karnataka are particularly expected to experience a rise in rainfall activity under the influence of the Northeast Monsoon.
The IMD clarified that it does not categorize November as part of the winter season, which typically begins in January and February. More specific winter season details are expected in December.
