Former AIADMK minister D. Jayakumar clarified that the party has not initiated alliance talks with any political party regarding the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
In Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, discussions about actor Vijay’s newly launched political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), have been making waves. Vijay has announced plans to contest the 2026 Assembly elections and has been actively focusing on political groundwork. However, despite not having contested an election yet or securing a single MLA or councillor, Vijay’s declaration of aiming for governance has sparked widespread debate.
Reports earlier suggested that TVK was engaged in alliance talks with AIADMK, including negotiations over seat-sharing and a potential Deputy Chief Minister position. Vijay’s party, however, dismissed these claims, stating they were baseless and clarified that no alliance had been formed with AIADMK.
Addressing these rumors, D. Jayakumar reiterated that AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami had already responded to the speculation. “We welcome like-minded parties, especially those committed to defeating the DMK, to join our alliance. However, no talks have been held with any party so far,” he said.
Jayakumar also emphasized that discussions about alliances would occur only after the election is announced, noting that there are still 15 months to go. He added, “The AIADMK is open to alliances with non-BJP, non-DMK parties that share our vision. However, as of now, no official discussions have taken place regarding election partnerships in Tamil Nadu.”
Separately, Jayakumar submitted a memorandum to the 16th Finance Commission, urging the central government to increase tax devolution to states to 50%, highlighting the disparity between the central and state governments in revenue allocation.
This clarification comes amidst growing curiosity about how AIADMK will shape its strategy in the lead-up to the state elections.
