Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji addressed questions regarding actor Vijay’s political aspirations, stating, “We do not underestimate anyone, nor do we speak ill of anyone,” without directly mentioning the actor’s name.
The minister was speaking after inspecting the construction of an international-standard hockey ground in Coimbatore, which is being built at a cost of ₹9.67 crore.
Senthil Balaji provided updates on various ongoing development projects in the city.
The hockey ground is expected to be completed by April 2025.
A ₹935-crore underground drainage project is underway, and Chief Minister Stalin has instructed that it be expedited.
A special allocation of ₹200 crore has been made for road development. Proposals for these roads have been submitted to the government, and work will commence soon after approval. However, roads in areas covered under the underground drainage project will be laid only after the drainage work is completed.
The minister also assured the public that infrastructure projects are being implemented in urban areas for their convenience, countering concerns that suburban locations might lack adequate facilities. He revealed plans to begin work on an international cricket stadium in Coimbatore shortly.
Speaking about the electricity department, Senthil Balaji emphasized that all equipment procurement is conducted transparently through an online tendering process. “The same procedures that were followed in the past are being adhered to now. No irregularities have occurred,” he affirmed.
When asked about actor Vijay’s political entry, the minister refrained from making any direct comments but maintained a respectful stance. “I do not underestimate anyone. I do not speak low of anyone,” he said, reiterating his neutral approach.
