‘DMK politicising Centre’s language policy’

Coimbatore, Mar 10: Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan on Sunday urged the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) not to politicize the three-language policy introduced by the Central government under the National Education Policy (NEP).
Speaking to the media in Coimbatore, Radhakrishnan expressed concern over the declining interest in learning Tamil in the state. He stated that the NEP encourages education in one’s mother tongue and allows students to choose a third language of their preference. “DMK should leave the decision to the students instead of turning it into a political issue,” he said.
Radhakrishnan further argued that the NEP could help promote Tamil language beyond Tamil Nadu. “If students in Bihar wish to learn Tamil, the policy allows it. There is no imposition of Hindi in Tamil Nadu, but everything here is being politicized unnecessarily,” he added.
On Delimitation and DMK’s Stand
Addressing concerns over the proposed delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies, Radhakrishnan pointed out that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had already clarified that the number of parliamentary seats in Tamil Nadu would not be reduced. He accused the DMK of politicizing non-issues and stirring unnecessary protests.
Concerns Over Drug Abuse and Crime in Tamil Nadu
Shifting focus to law and order issues, the Governor alleged that rising drug addiction among youth is a key factor behind increasing sexual assault cases in Tamil Nadu. He urged the state government to take stringent action against ganja sales.
“When I was the Governor of Puducherry, strict measures were taken to prevent ganja smuggling from Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government should implement similar tough measures to curb drug abuse and ensure the safety of its people,” Radhakrishnan emphasized.
