Chennai, Apr 12:
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has announced a protest in Chennai on April 16 condemning Tamil Nadu Minister Ponmudi for his alleged obscene and derogatory remarks against women.
In a strongly worded statement, EPS said, “Women are embodiments of knowledge, strength, and motherhood. However, Minister Ponmudi has made disgraceful and indecent comments by linking religious symbols of Saivism and Vaishnavism to women, during a recent event. His statements reflect a perverse mindset that should have no place in any individual, let alone a public servant.”
EPS accused the ruling DMK of consistently degrading political discourse, stating that several of its leaders frequently make uncivil and offensive remarks targeting not just political opponents but also women and religious beliefs. “Ponmudi’s speech, filled with vulgarity and a total lack of decency, has sparked outrage among the people of Tamil Nadu, especially women,” he added.
Highlighting that Ponmudi had previously served as the Minister for Higher Education, EPS said the minister’s conduct was deeply disappointing and has caused pain and shock among the public.
In response, the AIADMK’s Women’s Wing will organize a protest on April 16 at 10 AM in Saidapet, Chennai, demanding accountability and condemning the DMK minister’s speech. EPS called on party members and the public to join in large numbers to voice their dissent.
