Pahalgam attack: BJP urges unity, not politics

BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran on Wednesday called on opposition parties — including the ruling DMK and its allies — to avoid politicising the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, that claimed several tourist lives.
Paying homage to the victims at Kamalalayam, the BJP headquarters, Nagenthran issued a statement urging unity during this time of national grief.
“The BJP government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently taken decisive action against terrorism, whether cross-border or domestic,” he said. “At this time of national sorrow, political rhetoric must give way to solidarity.”
Nagenthran strongly condemned VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan’s call for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation over the incident. He also criticised the DMK government for what he called “double standards,” pointing to their silence during the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy and the Coimbatore car blast.
“This is not the time for divisive politics. The opposition must stand with the nation and not exploit tragedy for political gain,” he said.
He assured that the BJP remained fully committed to eradicating terrorism in all forms and vowed continued support to the security forces in their fight against extremism.
Earlier, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has issued a stern warning after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people.
At an event in Delhi, he said, “Those responsible will face a strong response soon.”
Rajnath Singh made it clear that the Indian government will not stop with punishing the attackers alone.
“We will also go after those who planned and hid behind the scenes,” he said.
He added, “Attackers and their masters will be targeted.”
