Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday launched the construction work for Phase-3 of the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR) project. The project is worth Rs. 2,689.74 crore.This phase covers a 30.10 km stretch from Tiruvallur Bypass to Sriperumbudur. It will be developed into a six-lane road with a two-way service road on both sides.
According to a government release, the new road will ease heavy vehicle traffic coming from other states and districts. These vehicles are headed to Ennore and Kattupalli ports. The full CPRR will extend up to Ennore and Mahabalipuram, covering a total of 132.87 km.
The stretch will include two flyovers, one railway overbridge, and two major bridges.
Phases 1 and 2 of the project ā from Ennore to Thatchur and Thatchur to Tiruvallur Bypass ā have already been completed.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Phase-4, between Sriperumbudur and Singaperumal Koil, is being prepared. Land is also being acquired for the final phase between Singaperumal Koil and Pooncheri.
The CPRR is being developed by the Highways and Minor Ports Department. The project aims to improve trade connectivity between Ennore and Mahabalipuram, bypassing congested city roads.
State Highways Minister E.V. Velu, Minorities Welfare Minister S.M. Nasar, and senior officials attended the event.
