In a grand celebration marking 125 years of literary excellence, The Alliance Company, one of Tamil publishing’s oldest and most respected institutions, released 25 books authored by the legendary humourist Crazy Mohan. The event, held on May 1, saw veteran actor Kamal Haasan unveil the collection in the presence of prominent personalities including Ravi Appasamy, director K. S. Ravikumar, actors Jayaram and Maadhu Balaji, publisher Alliance Srinivasan, and director S. B. Kanthan.The books—featuring some of Crazy Mohan’s most iconic plays and essays such as Chocolate Krishna, Google Gadothgajan, Crazy Kishkindha, and Maadhu Mirandal—celebrate his timeless wit and contribution to Tamil theatre and literature.
With a publishing legacy that includes authors like Devan, Cho Ramaswamy, Vaali, and actors Sivakumar and Suriya, The Alliance Company has also been a pioneer in translating literary works from Indian languages into Tamil. A historic moment remembered fondly was Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to their stall in 1946, where he praised founder V. Kuppuswamy Iyer.
This celebration was both a tribute to Crazy Mohan’s genius and a proud milestone in The Alliance Company’s continuing journey of enriching Tamil literature.
