Veteran Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor is all set to begin construction of a cutting-edge Film City in Uttar Pradesh, a project expected to revolutionize the entertainment landscape of North India. The facility will be developed in Noida’s Sector 21 under the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), in partnership with the Bhutani Group.Spread across 1,000 acres, the Film City will be built in three phases over eight years. The first phase, covering 230 acres, includes the construction of 13 to 14 film studios, an underwater shooting facility, post-production centers, a cinema museum, and a dedicated film institute. This phase will see an initial investment of ₹1,510 crore.
The film institute will occupy a massive 3 lakh square feet and offer professional courses in acting, editing, VFX, scriptwriting, mass communication, and more. It also includes a film festival zone, guest accommodations, and a grand convention center with a capacity of 10,000 people.
The ambitious project is expected to generate over five lakh jobs, with special emphasis on training and employing youth from Uttar Pradesh, especially from the Yamuna Expressway region.
However, the project has encountered planning challenges. YEIDA has flagged issues such as alterations in green zone layouts and inclusion of commercial spaces. The consortium has been instructed to revise its plans and obtain necessary clearances, including fire safety and structural approvals.
Despite these hurdles, construction is set to begin before June 30, 2025. Once complete, the Film City is expected to attract national and international film productions and boost cultural tourism in the region.
