London, July 5: Indian tennis player Yuki Bhambri gave fans a reason to cheer just ahead of his 33rd birthday by advancing to the second round of the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon 2025. Teaming up with Jiang Xinyu of China, the duo overcame a stiff challenge from the American pair Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Christian Harrison in a thrilling three-set match.
Playing on Court 16 at the All England Club, Bhambri and Jiang started strong, taking the first set 6-3. However, their opponents bounced back to dominate the second set 1-6. The final set saw both pairs fighting hard, but the Indo-Chinese pair held their nerves to win the tie-break 10-6, sealing the match 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (10-6).
This win marked a significant moment for Bhambri, who has been working to rebuild his form and ranking after several injury setbacks in recent years. His performance at Wimbledon underlines his determination to make a mark in doubles and mixed doubles formats.
In the men’s singles draw, Russia’s Andrey Rublev put in a commanding performance to reach the pre-quarterfinals. Rublev, known for his aggressive baseline play, defeated France’s Adrian Mannarino in straight sets — 7-5, 6-2, 6-3. He created five break point opportunities and converted them efficiently, showcasing both patience and power throughout the match.
Meanwhile, in a major upset on the women’s side, sixth seed Madison Keys was eliminated by Spain’s Laura Siegemund. Playing with great control and consistency, Siegemund dominated both sets to win 6-3, 6-3. She converted five out of 13 break point chances, never allowing Keys to find her rhythm.
The early exit of a top seed like Keys has opened up the women’s draw, giving lower-ranked players a chance to advance deeper into the tournament. Siegemund’s win is being hailed as one of the standout performances of the round.
As Wimbledon 2025 continues, fans can expect more exciting matches, unexpected results, and moments of brilliance as players fight for glory on the prestigious grass courts of London.
