K. Selvaperunthagai, president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC), has directed party leaders to refrain from publicly discussing alliance matters, especially talks with the DMK and other potential partners, as negotiations and preparations for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections intensify.
The move reflects concerns within the party about managing internal differences.
Speaking to the media in Thanjavur today, Selvaperunthagai emphasised that all decisions on alliances, seat sharing and political strategy should be taken only by senior leadership and officially communicated, not debated in public forums or press interactions.
He warned that unauthorised comments could weaken the INDIA bloc and fuel speculation that could benefit rival coalitions, particularly the AIADMK–BJP combine.
The directive follows a series of controversial remarks from within and outside the party, including critical comments by some leaders about alliance arrangements. To prevent such issues from straining relations with allies,
Selvaperunthagai stressed the need for discipline and restraint among Congress functionaries.
