The Election Commission of India has allotted the ‘whistle’ as the official election symbol for Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the political party floated by actor-turned-politician Vijay.
The symbol will be used by the party in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
TVK, which is a registered but unrecognised political party, had applied to the Election Commission seeking a common symbol so that its candidates could contest under a single identity across constituencies.
As per Election Commission norms, such parties are required to submit a list of preferred symbols, from which one is allotted. Sources said TVK had suggested around 10 symbols, including a whistle, auto-rickshaw, cricket ball, microphone and ship. After scrutiny, the Election Commission approved the whistle symbol for the party.
