Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of exploiting the recent stampede in Karur for political gain, rather than addressing the tragedy with genuine concern. Speaking in Ramanathapuram, Stalin criticized the BJP for its selective attention to disasters, highlighting its inaction during past incidents such as the Manipur riots, the Gujarat bridge collapse, and the Kumbh Mela stampede. He contrasted this with the Union Finance Minister’s prompt visit to Karur, suggesting a politically motivated response.Stalin also targeted AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami, accusing him of aligning with the BJP to evade accountability for past actions. He described the BJP as a “washing machine” for tainted leaders, lacking a clear ideology and focus on public welfare.
On international matters, Stalin condemned the Union government’s inaction over attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy and its failure to reclaim Katchatheevu. He reaffirmed Tamil Nadu’s resistance to RSS policies and emphasized the continuation of the Dravidian Model governance.
This statement comes amidst ongoing political tensions following the tragic stampede in Karur on September 27, which resulted in 41 deaths. The incident has led to widespread criticism of the event’s organizers and the authorities’ handling of the situation.
