Ties with Pak better since Hasina’s removal: B’desh

Islamabad,  Nov 4: Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Iqbal Hussain Khan, said bilateral relations have significantly improved since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina’s government in August 2024.
Speaking at an event in Karachi, he noted that ties between the two countries had been strained for over a decade under Hasina’s Awami League regime, particularly after the 2010 war crimes trials targeting collaborators of Pakistani forces from the 1971 Liberation War.
However, relations have now strengthened “at every level,” with Bangladeshi citizens receiving Pakistani visas within 24 hours. Khan emphasised the need to establish direct sea links between Karachi and Chittagong to enhance trade and connectivity.
He also pointed out that the Indian airspace ban on Pakistani flights complicates travel and trade between the two nations, underscoring the importance of maritime cooperation.
The envoy’s remarks highlight renewed diplomatic warmth and growing efforts to rebuild Bangladesh-Pakistan relations following years of tension.
