The surviving suspect in the deadly Bondi Beach shooting has regained consciousness and was arrested at his hospital bedside as police prepare to charge him in connection with the terror attack.
The 24‑year‑old man, identified as Naveed Akram, was critically injured in a shootout with police during the attack on a Hanukkah celebration that left 15 people dead and dozens injured near Sydney’s Bondi Beach.
Akram had been in a medically induced coma since being shot by officers at the scene. After regaining consciousness, he was taken into custody while still in hospital and is expected to face numerous charges, including murder and terrorism offences. Authorities have been questioning him at his bedside under police guard.
The shooting, described by Australian officials as a terrorist‑motivated attack, has prompted national shock and an ongoing investigation into possible extremist influences. Separate charges against Akram are expected to be formally filed as the legal process moves forward.
