Karachi, Jan 28: Ten suspected terrorists from two insurgent groups were killed during a counterterrorism operation in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, while 10 security personnel were injured, officials said Tuesday. The operation took place Monday in the mountainous area of Panjgur after security forces tracked a militant hideout and repeatedly asked the occupants to surrender. According to Counter Terrorism Department Deputy Inspector General Ayetzad Ahmed Goraya, the militants opened heavy fire, prompting forces to retaliate. Weapons including rocket launchers, explosives and communication devices were recovered, indicating contact with handlers. Goraya said counterterrorism operations have intensified as the Balochistan Liberation Army is allegedly recruiting children as facilitators and training some for suicide attacks, calling the trend alarming. Pakistan has seen a recent rise in militant violence, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
