About 47 lakh people in Tamil Nadu have not applied to add their names back to the voter list after being removed during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), election officials said.
The SIR, launched on November 4, 2025, aimed to update the electoral rolls by removing names of deceased, duplicate, or migrated voters. Before the revision, the state had 6.41 crore registered voters, which fell to 5.43 crore after the draft rolls were published.
Among the removed names, 27 lakh were deceased and 66.45 lakh were found to have shifted or lacked valid address details. Eligible voters whose names were removed could submit Form-6 to re-enter the list.
So far, around 22 lakh applications have been received — including 2.5 lakh from newly eligible 18-year-olds. However, nearly 47 lakh people have not applied to re-register, raising concerns about voter participation ahead of the April 2026 Assembly elections.
