Around 140 United States military personnel have been wounded in the ongoing conflict with Iran in the Middle East, the Pentagon has confirmed, giving the first clear picture of the toll the fighting has taken on American forces.
Pentagon officials said the majority of the injuries were minor, and 108 service members have already returned to duty after receiving treatment. However, eight troops remain severely injured and are currently undergoing advanced medical care.
The injuries were reported after Iran launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes targeting US military bases and allied locations across the Middle East. These attacks came following a joint military operation by the United States and Israel against Iran earlier in the conflict.
The war has also resulted in the deaths of seven American service members, including six killed in an attack in Kuwait and one in Saudi Arabia.
The broader conflict has caused heavy casualties across the region. Reports indicate that over 1,200 civilians have been killed in Iran since the fighting escalated in late February, highlighting the growing humanitarian impact of the war.
