Chennai, Apr 8:
Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Tuesday alleged that the proliferation of drugs in the state began during the previous AIADMK regime led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
Responding to criticism from the opposition over the alleged increase in drug-related crimes, Mr. Stalin said it was during Mr. Palaniswami’s tenure that Tamil Nadu became “engulfed by drugs.” He asserted that the present DMK government has been taking strong measures to curb the menace.
The Chief Minister pointed out that enforcement agencies are actively seizing narcotics and taking strict action against offenders. He emphasized that continuous crackdowns and preventive steps were being undertaken to control the spread of drugs across the state.
Stalin also accused the opposition of making baseless allegations for political gains ahead of the Assembly elections. He said the previous regime failed to effectively address the issue, allowing drug networks to grow unchecked.
Highlighting the government’s commitment, he reiterated that the DMK administration is determined to eliminate the drug menace and ensure public safety. He added that awareness campaigns and coordinated efforts with law enforcement agencies are being strengthened.
