Chennai, April 29:

The State Express Transport Corporation on Tuesday announced the operation of special bus services across Tamil Nadu to manage the expected surge in passenger traffic during the continuous holiday period from April 30 to May 2, including May Day and the weekend.

According to officials, additional buses will be operated along with regular services from key terminals. From Kilambakkam, 475 special buses will run on April 30 to major destinations such as Tiruchi, Madurai, Coimbatore and Tirunelveli, while 315 buses will be operated on both May 1 and May 2. From Koyambedu, 85 buses will be operated on April 30 and 75 each on the following two days to places including Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam and Bengaluru.

Limited services will also be operated from Madhavaram, with 14 buses daily during the period. In addition, around 200 special buses will be run from cities such as Bengaluru, Tiruppur, Erode and Coimbatore to various destinations. To facilitate return travel, 615 special buses will be operated on May 3 from across the State to Chennai and Bengaluru, depending on demand.

Special transport arrangements have also been made for the full moon festival at Tiruvannamalai. Services will be operated between the night of April 30 and May 1 for devotees travelling from Chennai and other parts of the State.

A large number of buses will be deployed from multiple termini, including Kilambakkam, Madhavaram, Adyar and Koyambedu. In total, 11,823 special buses will be operated to Tiruvannamalai during this period, in addition to regular services.

The corporation will also run 40 air-conditioned sleeper and seater buses from Kilambakkam on May 1, along with services from cities such as Madurai, Salem, Coimbatore and Tirunelveli.

Passengers have been advised to book tickets in advance through official platforms to avoid last-minute congestion, while officials have been deployed at major bus terminals to ensure smooth operations during the holiday rush.
