Chennai, Apr 27: Residents of Chennai should prepare for a sharp rise in temperatures, with forecasts indicating intense summer heat setting in from May 1. Weather analyst Pradeep John has warned that several parts of north Tamil Nadu are likely to face scorching conditions in the coming days. Districts including Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur, along with Chennai, are expected to witness severe heatwave-like conditions, with temperatures rising well above normal. In contrast, parts of interior, southern, and western Tamil Nadu may see rainfall activity from May 1 or 2, offering limited relief.

However, coastal and northern districts, especially areas near the Andhra Pradesh border, are likely to remain hot and dry. Authorities have urged people to avoid stepping out during peak heat hours between 11:00 AM and 3:30 PM. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and minimise outdoor exposure to prevent heat-related illnesses. Health experts have also cautioned vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing medical conditions, to take extra precautions during this period. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke if preventive measures are not followed.

Officials are closely monitoring the situation and have indicated that further advisories may be issued if temperatures continue to climb. Residents are encouraged to stay updated with weather bulletins and plan their daily activities accordingly to stay safe during the peak summer spell.
