Chennai, May 28:
Cutting across party lines, political leaders in Tamil Nadu extended warm greetings to the Muslim community on the eve of Eid al-Adha, highlighting the values of communal harmony, brotherhood, and selfless sacrifice.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, in his official message, described Bakrid as a sacred festival that promotes faith, compassion, humanity, and sharing. Recalling the significance of the occasion, he noted that the festival commemorates the devotion and sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son Ishmael in obedience to divine command.
The Chief Minister urged people to uphold the spirit of humanity and strengthen interfaith harmony, stressing the importance of sharing joy with the underprivileged and ensuring equality in society.
M. K. Stalin also conveyed his wishes, describing the Muslim community as close to his heart. He praised the values of charity and compassion, noting that the principles followed by the community reflect the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. He reaffirmed his party’s continued support for the rights and welfare of the Muslim community.
Edappadi K. Palaniswami extended his greetings, stating that Bakrid symbolises unwavering faith and the willingness to make sacrifices for a greater cause. He called for collective efforts to eliminate injustice and promote social progress.
Referring to the ideals of former leaders M. G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa, he urged people to work with dedication to foster peace, brotherhood, and humanitarian values.
Other leaders including Vaiko, Anbumani Ramadoss, Premalatha Vijayakanth, and Mubarak also extended their greetings, echoing similar sentiments of unity and compassion on the occasion.
