Tiruchy, June 1:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to visit the Trichy East Assembly constituency today to express his gratitude to voters, marking his first visit to the constituency after assuming office.
Trichy East is one of the two constituencies from which Vijay was elected in the recent Assembly elections. He had secured victories in both Perambur and Trichy East, defeating DMK candidates.
However, he later chose to retain the Perambur seat, where he won by a margin exceeding 53,000 votes, and resigned from Trichy East, which he had won by over 27,000 votes.
Following his resignation, the Trichy East seat has been declared vacant, and a by-election is expected to be held along with four other constituencies. These vacancies arose after four rebel AIADMK MLAs, who supported Vijay during the trust vote, stepped down and joined the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
According to the schedule, Vijay will arrive in Tiruchirappalli from Chennai by a chartered flight around 4 pm. He will then hold a roadshow, greeting supporters and the public from an open vehicle, before addressing a thanksgiving meeting at St. Joseph’s College grounds near Chathiram Bus Stand.
This public meeting will be his first major address after his speech during the swearing-in ceremony on May 10. Anticipating a large turnout similar to his pre-election campaigns, police have made elaborate security arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the event and avoid inconvenience to the public.
