Chennai, June 18:
In a dramatic start to the first Assembly session under the new government, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) staged a protest inside the Secretariat, accusing the ruling dispensation of failing to maintain law and order in the State.
The demonstration was led by Udhayanidhi Stalin, Leader of the Opposition, along with DMK MLAs. The legislators gathered outside the Assembly Hall holding placards and raising slogans against the government just minutes before proceedings began.
The opposition alleged that the current administration was attempting to destabilise rival parties through political inducements, often referred to as “horse-trading.” They also claimed that the overall law and order situation in Tamil Nadu had deteriorated under the new regime.
The protest set a tense tone for the Assembly session, signalling a confrontational political climate in the State as debates and proceedings get underway.
