Chennai, June 18:
Tamil Nadu Governor Arlekar on Thursday read out the address prepared by the State government in the Legislative Assembly without making any alterations, adhering strictly to constitutional convention.
The Governor delivered the speech at the start of the Assembly session, outlining the policy initiatives, achievements, and future plans of the government. The address, drafted by the elected government, was presented in its entirety as provided.
This move assumes significance amid past instances where deviations or differences between the State government and the Governor had led to political debates. However, on this occasion, the speech was read verbatim, reflecting procedural compliance.
The Governor’s address was delivered in English, after which the Tamil version was read out in the House by the Speaker, ensuring that all members could follow the proceedings.
The session began with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, and the Governor arrived at the Assembly shortly before the proceedings commenced. He was received by Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar and Assembly officials.
The address highlighted key governance priorities and major announcements, setting the tone for the Assembly session. Discussions on the Governor’s address are expected to be taken up by members in the coming days.
