Houston, June 29:

A breathtaking 92nd-minute volley from midfielder Stephen Eustaquio powered co-hosts Canada to a historic 1-0 victory over South Africa at SoFi Stadium on Sunday night, sealing the nation’s first-ever knockout-stage win in FIFA World Cup history.

In a tense and tightly contested encounter that appeared destined for extra time, Eustaquio emerged as the unlikely hero. Playing his club football for Los Angeles FC, the midfielder delivered on home soil in dramatic fashion.

Deep into stoppage time, Alistair Johnston launched a long ball into the box, which was only partially cleared by the South African defence. The ball fell perfectly into Eustaquio’s path outside the penalty area, and he responded with a stunning first-time volley that rocketed into the bottom corner, leaving goalkeeper Ronwen Williams with no chance.

The goal sparked wild celebrations among Canadian fans, marking a defining moment in the nation’s football history.
