Chennai, July 27:
On the solemn occasion of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas on Sunday, the General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Bharat Area, Indian Army Lt. General V Sreehari led the tribute by laying a wreath at the Victory War Memorial, Chennai, on Sunday honouring the indomitable courage, unwavering resolve and supreme sacrifice of the brave soldiers who secured India’s victory in the Kargil conflict, even as Tamil Nadu Governor R V Arlekar paid rich tributes to the bravehearts who sacrificed their lives.

Kargil Vijay Diwas stands as a timeless reminder that the Nation’s peace, security and sovereignty are safeguarded by the extraordinary valour of those who placed duty above self and made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the Motherland.

The ceremony featured a Tri-Services Guard of Honour, followed by the poignant rendition of the Last Post, evoking a profound sense of remembrance and gratitude. Wreaths were also laid by Flag Officer Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area (FOTNA), Commodore Suvaratan Magon, Air Officer Commanding Tambaram, Air Commodore Tapan Sharma, Commander Coast Guard Region (East) District-5 Murugan, Veterans, Veer Naris and NCC Cadets, reflecting the collective homage of the Services and the Nation, a defence release said.

School children, NCC cadets, Government officials and serving personnel of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard joined the commemoration. Set against the inspiring backdrop of the revitalised Victory War Memorial, with its T-55 Tank and iconic Naval artefacts, the ceremony reaffirmed the enduring legacy of India’s Armed Forces while connecting future generations with the spirit of patriotism and sacrifice.

On the occasion, the GOC Dakshin Bharat Area also flagged off a commemorative motorcycle ride comprising riders from Company Rides Team, Royal Enfield Clubhouse, Uthandi, and the Indian Army, as a tribute to the indelible legacy of the Kargil heroes and to inspire patriotism.

Meanwhile, the Governor, in his message said “on the solemn occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, I pay my heartfelt tributes to the valiant soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces whose unparalleled courage, unwavering determination, and supreme sacrifice secured our nation’s victory in the Kargil War.”

“Their heroism continues to inspire generations and reminds us that the security and sovereignty of our nation are safeguarded by the selfless service of our brave warriors” Mr Arlekar said.

“Let us reaffirm our gratitude to our Armed Forces and resolve to uphold the ideals of patriotism, unity, and national service. Jai Hind!”, he added.
