Islamabad, Aug 24:
A group of 21 former international cricket captains, including India greats Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, have renewed their appeal to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging his government to ensure “humane treatment and proper medical care” for former Pakistan captain and prime minister Imran Khan.
The appeal, issued on August 23, comes amid concerns over Khan’s health and follows developments surrounding a court-directed medical examination. The 73-year-old former Pakistan captain has spent more than three years in custody. The latest appeal follows an earlier letter sent six months ago by 14 former international captains. Seven more former captains have now joined the group.
In their letter to Sharif, the former captains said their intervention was driven by their shared history with Khan on the cricket field rather than politics.
