NEW DELHI:
The Union Cabinet has approved a Rs 1.86 lakh crore programme aimed at strengthening India’s renewable energy infrastructure, including transmission networks and battery storage.
Of the total allocation, Rs 1.36 lakh crore will be used to strengthen intra-state transmission systems to facilitate evacuation of up to 135 GW of clean energy.
The government has also approved a Rs 50,000 crore incentive scheme to support installation of 50 GWh of battery energy storage systems. India aims to increase its non-fossil fuel power capacity from around 304 GW currently to 500 GW by 2030.
