Chennai: Today being the D-day to stop using plastics, Chennai-based Viswajayam Foundation today distributed stainless steel cutlery sets (plate, tumbler and steel carrier) for patients in the cancer block of Government Royapettah Hospital.
“Plastics are, in general, harmful and is more so for patients with cancer. We wish to take this message to them and make them shift to healthy alternatives,” said foundation founder Sekar Viswanathan.
The foundation also plans to extend its service if funds are provided. “The major roadblock is implementation of the initiatives. Now that we have undertaken work in two hospitals, I personally oversee and monitor the works. If funds improve, our team will be ready to do double the welfare activities for patients,” he said.
The foundation has been involved in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene of the 90,000 sq ft cancer block since a long time now, following one of his family members becoming a cancer patient. In addition to Royapettah GH, also does housekeeping in Adyar Cancer Institute.
