Chennai: The Madras High Court today granted conditional bail to former AIADMK Minister D Jayakumar in a case filed for assaulting and parading a DMK man by removing shirt.
The bail was granted after the Chennai city police on Thursday informed the court that they have no objection in granting conditional bail to the former Minister.
Stringent conditions may be imposed for enlarging him on bail and he may be directed to file an affidavit that he would not repeat such offences in future, counsel for the State said.
Recording the submissions, Justice A D Jagadish Chandira said, ‘Respondent police are acting in a fair manner.’
He was arrested at his residence in Foreshore Estate last month was remanded in judicial custody till 7 March and was lodged in Poonamallee sub-jail.
