Chennai: The Tamilnadu government is likely to file an appeal in the Supreme Court as part of its efforts to ensure 10.5 per cent internal reservation for the Vanniyars within the 20 per cent MBC quota, sources said.
‘A decision will be taken in this regard after consultation with legal experts,’ they added.
Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan, while reacting to the order of the Supreme Court upholding the quashing of 10.5 per cent internal reservation for Vanniyakula Kshatriya community, though the Supreme Court was in agreement with a State governmentās right to ensure internal reservation, it had quashed the reservation on the ground that it had been granted without substantial basis and the recommendations of the Backward Classes Commission had been made with antiquated data.
Without proper basic data, a law to provide internal quota for Vanniyars was brought out by the previous AIADMK regime hastily for āpolitical reasonsā in the run-up to the Assembly election last year, the Minister said.
Duraimurugan said that the government would hold a consultation with legal experts, and plan on the future move on this special quota accordingly.
