In a significant event, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin addressed the launch of renowned Tamil lyricist and poet Vairamuthu’s ‘Maha Kavithai’ book, emphasizing the poet’s insights into the recent torrential rainfall that the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) failed to predict accurately.
Stalin commended Vairamuthu for delving into the real reasons behind the unprecedented rainfall in his poetic work, contrasting it with the IMD’s forecast. While the IMD predicted heavy rains, Vairamuthu’s ‘Maha Kavithai’ reportedly goes deeper, attributing the phenomenon to geological and astronomical changes that have led to a reversal of the five elements of nature.
During the keynote address, Stalin highlighted Vairamuthu’s perspective on the pollution of earth, air, water, and ether, contributing to environmental changes. The Chief Minister acknowledged the pressing issue of climate change, asserting it as the most significant threat faced by society. He outlined the steps taken by his government to address climate change, stating that Tamil Nadu is at the forefront of climate-focused initiatives among Indian states.
Stalin underscored the urgency of achieving carbon balance by 2050, referencing international studies and summits. He claimed that the DMK government, which came to power in 2021, has implemented measures unmatched by other states in the country. The recent cyclonic storms and floods have drawn attention to ecological concerns, further emphasizing the need for proactive climate action.
Expressing his admiration for Vairamuthu’s work, Stalin urged the veteran poet to translate ‘Maha Kavithai’ into English. Additionally, he requested a poetic tribute to the late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, highlighting the historical significance of his leadership.
