In a candid statement, Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai expressed his views on India’s political landscape, emphasizing the need for a decisive and accountable Prime Minister. Annamalai’s remarks, made during a Digital Conclave organized by the Kerala BJP in Thiruvananthapuram, underscored the importance of strong leadership in navigating the country through various challenges.
Annamalai began by addressing the tenure of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, acknowledging his integrity while noting the necessity for a leader capable of making bold decisions. “India does not need a leader who cannot take a decision,” he asserted, highlighting the imperative for a functioning Prime Minister capable of steering the nation even amidst potential security threats.
Drawing a comparison with the present leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Annamalai commended Modi’s ability to take decisive actions and garner public support, despite facing frequent electoral tests. He cited instances such as demonetization and the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as examples of Modi’s willingness to take risks for the greater good.
Addressing the accountability of the Prime Minister, Annamalai emphasized the significance of facing the electorate in numerous elections across the country. “People will judge the prime minister in six elections. Six elections people will ask the Prime Minister, What have you done?” he remarked, highlighting the scrutiny faced by the Prime Minister and the need for proactive leadership.
In his remarks, Annamalai also criticized Rahul Gandhi, suggesting that his ideas were worse than those of the Soviet Union in 1991. While acknowledging the importance of robust opposition in a democracy, Annamalai underscored the necessity for constructive criticism and alternative policies rather than mere opposition for the sake of it.
