Union Minister L. Murugan conducted a review meeting yesterday with officials from the Southern Zone of the Central Public Relations Office and the Press Information Bureau at the Doordarshan office in Chennai.
Key Highlights from His Statement:
Affordable Housing for Workers: As part of the Central Government’s initiative to provide affordable housing for workers, a facility with 18,720 beds has been constructed in Kanchipuram district. This project, costing ₹700 crores, has received a subsidy of ₹37 crores from the Central Government. Additionally, a loan of ₹498 crores has been facilitated through the State Bank of India.
Criticism of State Government: Minister Murugan criticized Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for not acknowledging the Central Government’s role in the project during the inauguration of the workers’ housing facility. He accused the DMK government of merely affixing ‘stickers’ to Central Government schemes.
Delay in Chennai Metro Funding: The Minister addressed the delay in funding for the Chennai Metro project, clarifying that the Tamil Nadu government had not submitted the necessary financial reports. He refuted claims by the DMK government that political reasons were behind the delay in Central funding.
Karunanidhi Coin Issue: Minister Murugan also remarked on the issuance of a commemorative coin for former Chief Minister Karunanidhi, stating that it was an apolitical event. He noted that the Central Government has previously issued commemorative coins for other notable leaders, including K. Kamaraj, M.G. Ramachandran, and A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
