The All Omni Bus Owners Association announced on Monday that despite the financial strain caused by the recent toll fee increase at 25 toll plazas across Tamil Nadu, there would be no hike in omnibus fares. The toll fee hike, which took effect on September 1, has increased charges by 5 to 7 percent at these plazas, with user fees rising by amounts ranging from ₹5 to ₹150 depending on the vehicle category. The association’s president, A. Anbazhagan, acknowledged the financial challenges this increase has imposed on the omnibus operators but assured that passengers would not face fare hikes as a result.
In his statement, Anbazhagan urged the central government to take immediate action by removing toll plazas that have already recouped their project costs and by rolling back the recent toll fee increase. He emphasized the need for government intervention to alleviate the financial burden on both operators and passengers.
