Annamalai is set to take charge again as the Tamil Nadu BJP president, according to BJP sources.
Hailing from Thottampatti, a village near Chinnadharapuram in Karur district, Annamalai comes from a farming family. A former IPS officer, he served in Karnataka before resigning from his post to enter politics. He was appointed as the Tamil Nadu BJP president and has been an active figure in the party’s expansion efforts.
During his tenure, Annamalai’s contributions extended beyond Tamil Nadu to Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, where he participated in organizational efforts and election campaigns.
His three-year term as Tamil Nadu BJP president ended in July this year. The election for the state BJP president is scheduled to take place in the first week of January 2025. However, sources indicate that the BJP leadership has decided to reappoint Annamalai for a second term.
On December 2, a BJP consultative meeting was held in Chennai, attended by Tamil Nadu BJP in-charge Aravind Menon and co-in-charge Sudhakar Reddy, along with senior party functionaries. During the meeting, a consensus was reached to nominate Annamalai once again as the state president.
The BJP’s national leadership is reportedly impressed by Annamalai’s efforts in strengthening the party’s presence in Tamil Nadu. His “En Mann, En Makkal” yatra, undertaken ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, played a significant role in expanding the party’s reach and visibility across the state. This initiative resulted in the BJP securing a notable increase in votes compared to previous elections.
