In a significant move to strengthen the healthcare sector, the Tamil Nadu government will appoint 2,642 new doctors across the state within the next two weeks, Health Minister Ma Subramanian announced on Monday.As part of this recruitment drive, transfer orders for 1,021 medical officersâappointed last yearâwill be issued on February 20. Following this, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will oversee the appointment of fresh recruits within ten days.
Transparent Transfer Process for Existing Medical Officers
The minister noted that the 1,021 doctors, appointed last year, had completed their mandatory one-year tenure in rural areas. As per the appointment conditions, they were required to serve in these regions without eligibility for transfer during this period.
Recently, the state health department conducted transfer counseling for these medical officers, enabling them to choose their preferred locations. Over 1,000 doctors will receive transfer orders in a transparent manner, set to be issued on February 20.
The recruitment of new doctors follows the completion of certificate verification for 4,585 candidates who appeared for the January 5 examination for 2,553 vacancies. Minister Ma Subramanian confirmed that the appointment orders for the selected 2,642 doctors will be issued within the next 10 days.
With this latest recruitment drive, the minister stated that Tamil Nadu will have zero vacancies in the State Health Department, ensuring improved healthcare services across urban and rural areas.
This move is expected to bolster the stateâs medical infrastructure and provide better healthcare access to the people of Tamil Nadu.
